My new favorite cookbook: South Your Mouth by Mandy Rivers

First of all, how can you resist flipping open a cookbook named “South Your Mouth”?

I love the Shrimp and Grits recipe, because it’s both quick and yummy. I have a recipe that is also delish, but it’s a lot more work. I put it in the back of my latest book, Pirate Heiress (due out September 15).

I’m also a firm believer in soaking poultry, especially turkeys for Thanksgiving, in a salt brine. It gives it a magnificent flavor and produces the most succulent and tender meat. Mandy includes her version in the cookbook, which I intend to try on a roasting chicken later this week.
